Should I use the more tag on my blogs?

This was my response to Nita writer’s query on using the more tag recently:

I think it is a good thing to add the more tag. When the posts are long the home page takes a long time in loading. See the scrollbar on the right of your home page; you will find that it is very small meaning you have a big page! Go to Onecoolsite and you will find she has set only 3 posts on home page! Why? So that your site takes a small time in loading which is a good thing.
I think you should use the more tag on all posts hereafter and set home page to show 6 or 7 or 8 posts (your present no. is 12 which is more than a decent no.). You see your readers may be mostly coming through RSS feed or Google search. They will not see the more tag because the permalink of a post does not show more tag but shows the full post. Only those who come to your home page will see the more tag. So my advice is to use the more tag.
Two more things that you can do is to use Windows Live writer; it will be a wonderful experience (WP editor is slow and sluggish; adding images etc. is so easy with live writer). It is a must have application. I even ve a post praising it on my blog. Also, give a different link colour from Vigilance customisation options; usually blue is fine as Google uses it. Your posts and links have the same colour presently.

Query to Hostgator on wordpress hosting

Dear Hostagtor team,
Two queries (my primary domain is , baby plan 3 years). Please note that I am low on tech knowledge.

1. Can I add an addon domain before making name server changes? I will change the nameservers two days later for my blog which I want to shift to HG servers  but want to add it now only. The support document says I may not so I am confused. Also can I install wordpress on it even before DNS has propagated?

2. My main wordpress blog which I will shift to HG is rather big. I have read that I can change the size limit from php.ini file. So will this do or will I have to contact support/chat while shifting.

Leave it as such. Thats good enough. You can understand its the syntax. %post title % will be replaced by the title for you post. All the other options are similar. The bottom part is for more specific things. If you have some pages already set title and other things, you can exclude it here so that this plugin does not affect their title format.

If I have one post published already then are you saying that I should exclude it from the options? Does that mean if someone has 100 posts already before installing this plugin one will need to exclude all those 100 posts??!!

No need if you just skip it. Let it affect all the pages. Inface the syntax given is the SEO friendly one

I hope it does not change the url. For example if someone has 100 posts many of which may be linked to many posts on net then it will return 404 error! So I think it does not tamper the url.

Hey I dont say anything as URL. I mentioned only titles. Changing Titles doesn’t affecct the URL at all
